Multi-disciplinary Approach to Develop Early Children Education Professionals

The programme draws on the strength of different academic departments at CUHK, including those within the Faculty of Education, as well as the Faculty of Arts (Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages and Department of Music) and the Faculty of Social Science (Department of Psychology). The multi-disciplinary approach prepares graduates to be professional, creative and ethical educators.

Wide Range of Internship Opportunities

Examples of internship include working with early childhood education or other professionals in providing education services to children in kindergartens, in providing training to individual children who have special educational needs, in conducting programmes on parent education in social service centres, in implementing daily routine practices for infants and toddlers in nursery schools.

Professional Qualifications

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be eligible to register as:

• Qualified Kindergarten Teachers with the Education Bureau; and
• Child-care supervisors with the Social Welfare Department; and
• Child-care workers with the Social Welfare Department; and
• Special child-care workers with the Social Welfare Department* (if graduates have completed the SEN-related courses)
*Subject to the approval of the Social Welfare Department

Graduates will also meet the academic qualifications required as kindergarten principals.

The programme calculates admission scores based on the total score of Best 5 HKDSE subjects.

Bonus points will be awarded to the 6th and 7th subjects.

Note 1: Please note that admission to the University is on a competitive basis. Apart from public examination results, applicants' other learning experiences, prior education, and interview performance (if any) will also be considered.

Note 2: For score conversion of Category C: Other Language subjects, Grade A = 5 / Grade B = 4 / Grade C = 3 / Grade D = 2 / Grade E = 1

Note 3: The programme accepts specific Applied Learning (ApL) course(s) with "Attained with Distinction I/II" as an extra elective subject for awarding bonus points. Please refer to http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/adm/jupas/ApL2021.pdf for details.

Note 4For 2021 entry, the best result in the same subject taken by a candidate in his/her three most recent attempts of the HKDSE examination will be used for calculation of the admission score.
