Programme Highlights

What our students say...

i

Preparation for professional Chinese Language Teachers

This programme prepares students to become professional Chinese language teachers. The courses offered by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature enrich students’ knowledge of Chinese language and literature, while the educational studies courses offered by the Faculty of Education develop their pedagogical knowledge, teaching skills and ability to conduct educational research. The programme also includes school experience and teaching practice in local schools to ensure that students are able to put theories into practice.

ii

Enhancing Chinese Language Proficiency

Financially supported by the Government, the eight- to ten- week immersion programme will bring students to Beijing or other major mainland cities. Students who have taken the mandatory CLED courses on Putonghua and the use of it as a medium of instruction will have a chance to immerse themselves in a fully Putonghua setting, with exposure to local Chinese culture. Before returning to Hong Kong, students will sit for the Putonghua Proficiency Test (PSC) administered by the National Language Commission of China to obtain the qualification required for certified Putonghua teachers in Hong Kong.

iii

Professional Qualifications

Upon fulfilment of all graduation requirements, students are simultaneously awarded two degrees—a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Education (BEd)—which together is recognised as equivalent to a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), ensuring that students meet all of the professional requirements needed to obtain qualified teacher status. Graduates of the programme are fully qualified to teach Chinese in local primary and secondary schools.

UQ5**445* 5*5428
M5**445* 44 25

Note 1: The Total Reference Score is the total score of the applicant calculated based on the programme selection principle (where level 5** = 7 / level 5* = 6 / level 5 = 5 / level 4 = 4 /  level 3 = 3 / level 2 = 2 / level 1 = 1 for Category A subjects. For Category C: Other Language subjects, Grade A = 5 / Grade B = 4 / Grade C = 3 / Grade D = 2 / Grade E = 1).

Note 2: In the admission process, some programmes may have additional requirements (such as specifying subject requirements, assigning heavier weighting to specific subjects, etc.) which are NOT reflected in the Total Reference Score above.

Note 3: Please note that as admission is NOT based on public examination results alone, and the overall scores of students admitted to each programme vary from year to year, the information provided is for reference only, and should not be used to predict the chance of admission to any programme in subsequent years.
