Moh-Leen Chew, Tamara Kitchen, and Linda Chu
National University of Singapore

A knowledge of learning style preferences has been deemed by some English language educators as an important factor in meeting the learning needds of students. In an attempt to find out more about this regarding our students at the National University of Singapore, we used a questionnaire to help students identify their learning style preferences. We then focused on helping them to use different learning strategies to maximize and stretch their learning styles in their study of English and core content subjects. Working toward this end, a list of learning strategies was developed for their use. The second focus of the study was to help teachers adapt their teaching styles in order to met the learning style preference needs of their students. To achieve this, a list of classroom strategies was also created to help teachers.
