Led by Prof. Keping Wu, twenty MA students, alumni and friends of the Department of Anthropology of CUHK joined a summer field trip to Yunnan from 29 May to 6 June 2010. The theme of this trip is food and agricultural heritage. Members of the group visited Kunming, Shilin, Yuxi, Mile, Pu'er and Xishuangbanna to explore the production, marketing and consumption of wine, tobacco, coffee and pu¡Šer tea. They also passed regions where the Yi, Hani, Sani, and Dai ethnic group live, and observed issues such as tourism and ethnicity. The group tasted various ethnic cuisines and some of the students even had their first experience of locally brewed alcohol from corn. They also visited two academic institutions, namely the Yunnan Tropical Studies Institute and Yunnan Agricultural University, and had the chance to discuss academic issues with teachers and students there. The group all find the trip rewarding and exciting.
