I. Mid-Symposium Tours
Several Mid-symposium tours are
being arranged for June 21 (Wed). These are indicated below. Some
of the tours need a minimum number to push through. If a tour is
cancelled because of low number of subscription or because of bad
weather, your payment will be refunded in full at the Symposium.
Deadline to book the mid-symposium tour is April 12, 2006. Kindly
send in the booking form together with the symposium registration
form.

Tour 1. Diving tours to Tung Ping Chau Marine Park / Hoi
Ha Wan Marine Park and other outlying islands (Whole Day).
Diving tour is being arranged with a dive tour company (Pro-Dive
Hong Kong). Diving may be carried out at sites within Tung Ping
Chau Marine Park, Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park or a few other areas around
the northeastern part of Hong Kong. These are the areas where coral
cover is relatively high. Soft corals or gorgonians may be abundant
in some sites as well. The exact site for diving will be determined
on the day itself depending on the wind and sea conditions. NO collection
of samples is allowed inside the marine parks.
Each participant will have three tanks and weights and weight belt
included in the cost. Lunch is also included. The dive tour will
start from the University. All divers will be taken to Wong Shek
Pier by bus and will take off from there on board a dive boat. Dives
will be guided by student volunteers with professional dive masters.
Only certified divers will be allowed on this tour. Valid international
diving certificate (C-card) must be shown.
The cost for each participant is HK$ 480 (US$ 60). The cost for
rental of one full set of diving gear is HK$ 220 (US$ 28).

Tour 2. A group tour to Hong Kong Ocean Park. (Whole Day)
Ocean Park is known for its shark tank and coral reef aquaria.
It is also an amusement park. The Park opens at 10 AM and closes
at 6 PM so the tour will start at 9 AM from the University. The
tour will be guided at the beginning and arrangement is being made
for the participants to have a "behind the scene tour"
of the aquarium set up. Participants will then be free to go on
their own and will also return to the University or to their hotels
on their own. They may wish to drop by downtown Hong Kong (Causeway
Bay, Wanchai, Lankwaifong or Tsimshatsui shopping or pub areas)
on their way back.
The cost of this tour is HK$ 220 (US$ 28) per person. This includes
the regular Entrance Fee to the Ocean Park and transportation fee
from the University to the Ocean Park. Lunch is not included in
the tour. Lunch is available in the Park or the participants may
wish to bring their own food and water.
Tour 3. A group tour to Hong Kong Fish Market.(Half Day)
Hong Kong is one of the largest fish importers in the world. A
visit to the fish market will give you an idea on the variety of
fish and other fisheries products being marketed. The tour will
be guided. The tour will start at 5:00 AM and will end before noon.
The cost of the tour is HK$ 60 (US$ 8) per person to cover the travel
cost and some light snacks.

Tour 4. Dolphin Watch (Half Day)
The Chinese White Dolphin is a protected species in China, including
Hong Kong. It frequents the water of western Hong Kong around the
mouth of Pearl River. This tour will be guided and will start from
the University at 8:30 AM by bus transfer to Yuen Long. The boat
tour will start from Yuen Long and will cover the area along the
western shore of Hong Kong, including the Sha Chau Long Kwo Chau
Marine Park. The boat tour will end at noon (12 PM) and participants
will return to the University before 1 PM. Participants may wish
to get off at some train stations along the way.
The cost of this tour is HK$ 160 (US$ 20) / person to cover bus
and boat rentals and some light snacks.
