Using Digital Certificate with CU Link

This feature will be decommissioned on 30 Jun 2012. For details, please refer to here.

You can now store your digital certificates and corresponding private keys onto your CU Link. By doing so, you will enjoy the following benefits:

  1. Portable private keys

You can access your private key on a public/shared PC without first installing the private key onto that PC. Installing your private key on a public/shared PC is insecure because other users might be able to copy your private key.

By storing your private key on CU Link, the encryption and decryption process will be performed on the smart card. Your private key will never leave the card, thus no one could be able to copy it.

  2. Second factor security

If your private key was installed on a PC infected with virus or trojan programs, the malicious program might be able to use your private key to sign or decrpyt messages in the background.

By storing your private key on CU Link, you can be assured that no one could access your private key after you remove CU Link from the card reader. You can insert CU Link into the card reader only when necessary.

Please refer to the following items on how to use your digital certificate with CU Link:

  1. Does my CU Link support digital certificate?
  2. First Time Installation
  3. CUHK Card Utility
  4. Troubleshooting
