LEE SHIU CENTRE OF INTERCULTURAL LEARNING – 2008 SUMMER PROGRAMME

With a generous donation from Dr. and Mrs. Lee Shiu in 2001, the Lee Shiu Centre of Intercultural Learning was established by Chung Chi College with a vision to cultivate talents for the modernization of China, to train future leaders for our Chinese society, and to bridge the Eastern and Western cultures. This year, the fourth summer programme organized by the Centre, entitled “China Rising: In Pursuit of One World One Dream”, is held in Beijing, Singapore and Hong Kong from July 8 to August 5, 2008. A total of 79 outstanding student delegates selected from 14 renowned universities in mainland China, Singapore, the United States and Hong Kong are going to conduct thematic study through a series of lectures, visits and field trips during the tri-city programme. Tsinghua University and the University Scholars Programme, National University of Singapore are the co-organizers.

The Hong Kong session of the study trip is scheduled for July 24 to August 5, 2008. On August 5, a series of culminating events will be held, including the Lee Shiu Young Leaders Forum at 2:30 p.m. and the Closing Ceremony at 5:00 p.m. in Lecture Theatre 1, Esther Lee Building, as well as the Farewell Dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the College Staff Club.

The Closing Ceremony will feature a keynote presentation by Mrs. Fanny Law, Hong Kong Deputy, 11th National People’s Congress of China, on “A Balanced View of China”. Other officiating guests include Professor Jack Cheng, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University; Dr. Lee Shiu, Founder of the Centre of Lee Shiu Centre of Intercultural Learning; Dr. Jennie Mui Lee, Honorary Director, Lee Shiu Centre of Intercultural Learning; and Professor Leung Yuen Sang, Head of Chung Chi College.

CHUNG CHI COLLEGE INAUGURATION CEREMONY FOR FRESHMEN

The Inauguration Ceremony for Freshmen 2008 of Chung Chi College will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 20, 2008 (Wednesday) in the College Chapel. Programmes will include a service, address by College Head, video show on college and campus life, panel discussion in which alumni will share with the freshmen what their college days had brought them, as well as group discussions led by thirty and more family and staff members. The panelists include Ms. Alima S.F. Tuet (1972 / Sociology), Former Chief Librarian of Hong Kong Central Library; Ms. Alice Y.M. Kwok (1979 / Economics), Chief Editor of Metro Finance; and Mr. Percy S.T. Leung (2006 / Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis), Consultant, IBM Global Business Services. All staff members of the College are welcome to join the Ceremony.

In the 2008 Honours List of the HKSAR Government, Mr. Sit Tung, College graduate of 1977 majoring in Social Work, is awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star. Professor Cheung Yuet Wah and Mrs. Tang Lai Yuen-yee Luvisa, respectively College graduates of 1975 in Sociology and 1976 in Social Work, are both awarded the Medal of Honour.
