ART EXHIBITION “THE HIGHEST EXCELLENCE IS LIKE WATER: KIT-KEUNG KAN’S RECENT INK PAINTINGS AND CALLIGRAPHY”

The art exhibition, "The Highest Excellence is Like Water: Kit-Keung Kan's Recent Ink Paintings and Calligraphy", will be staged at the Lobby Gallery, Chung Chi College Administration Building from now to March 2, 2012. This art event is presented in celebration of the College 60th Anniversary.

Dr. Kan Kit Keung, a graduate of Chung Chi College in 1966 majoring in Physics, is a world renowned artist. With the theme of "The Highest Excellence is Like Water", the exhibition features Dr. Kan's ink paintings, calligraphy and installations, portraying the monumental waterscape and his profound feelings for nature.

(1) Beyond the Lily Pond: "Experience of Organic Farm into Reservations"
The Student Life Committee will organize the second Beyond the Lily Pond event of the year, which is "Experience of Organic Farm into Reservations", in early February. Details on the activity are as follows:
Date: February 11, 2012 (Saturday)
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (1:15 p.m. Assemble outside the Maxim's MX at University MTR Station)
Venue: Mapopo Community Farm, Ma Shi Po, Fanling

S.H. SUNG CREATIVITY AWARD 2011/2012 OPENS FOR APPLICATION

Application for the S.H. Sung Creativity Award 2011/2012 is now open for all Chung Chi students through February 10, 2012 (TODAY). All original projects demonstrating innovative ideas are welcome. Submissions can be proposed, on-going or finished projects.

The Award is divided into First, Second and Third Prizes and the awardees will receive certificates and cash prizes varying from HK$10,000 to HK$2,000. Notes for applicants and application forms are available at the lobby of the first floor of Chung Chi Tang Student Centre and downloadable from the College website (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/ccc/cac ).

“DREAMING THROUGH CHUNG CHI” SCHEME

With the aim of encouraging students to pursue dreams, the College Creativity Awards Committee will run the "Dreaming Through Chung Chi" Scheme again this year. Interested students should each submit to the Committee a written proposal of not more than 2,000 words expressing his/her dream, together with a page of feasibility assessment, a budget plan and any other supplementary materials deemed necessary. The maximum amount of subsidy for each selected student will be 80% of the proposed budget or HK$20,000, whichever is lower.

Applications will be received all year round. The upcoming Committee meeting will be held in late February. For those students who would like their proposals to be considered in the next meeting, please submit the proposals by February 10, 2012 (TODAY). The next Committee meeting will be held in June 2012. CHUNG CHI MENTOR PROGRAMM 2011/2012

(1) E-mentoring Programme 2011/2012- Briefing Sessions for Applicants
The Chung Chi College Mentor Programme Committee is going to organize the second briefing session for student applicants of the Programme 2011/2012 at 6:45p.m. on February 16, 2012 (Thursday). Applicants who did not attend the first briefing should attend this session. Applicants will receive an email from the College Mentor Programme Committee. (2) Spring Dinner of Mentor Programme
The College Alumni Association and the College Mentor Programme Committee 2011/2012 will co-organize a spring dinner for mentors and mentees this month and details are as follows:

DISCOVERING CHINESE MARTIAL ARTS (SHAOLIN STYLE)【NEW】

A "Discovering Chinese Martial Arts (Shaolin Style)" will be organized by the Chung Chi College Exchange Programme Committee with the details below:
Date: Tuesday from February 21 to March 27, 2012 (A total of 6 sessions)
Time: 7 pm – 9 pm

Fees: HK$600 (Chung Chi students with over 80% attendance rate will receive subsidy of half the fee from the College)

Mr. Yan, graduated from Hebei Normal University, was a member of Hebei Wushu Team as well as a national-rank athlete with a national competition background. He has rich experience in teaching martial arts and has been working as a stuntman on Chinese or International movies ("Red Cliff", "Blood the Last Vampire" etc.).

OTHERS
STUDENT DEVELOPMENT SUBSIDY SCHEME

To encourage students to participate in short-term, non credit-bearing, mainland and overseas activities, subsidies will be provided for all Chung Chi undergraduates under this Scheme. The activities should be organized or recognized by the College, Departments or the University.
Successful applicants will receive subsidy up to 30% of his/her budget (expenditure minus income from other sources) or HK$10,000, whichever the lower. Students should submit the application form and all supporting documents to the Dean of Students' Office at least one month before the departure. The result will be announced in early February, June and October.

CUHK STUDENT TRAVEL LOAN SCHEME 2011/12【NEW】

CUHK Student Travel Loan Scheme 2011/12 is now open for application.  This scheme is intended to provide interest-free loan to students who will participate in short courses, internships, conferences, exchange programmes and educational tour abroad in the summer of 2012.  The loan will only cover partial travel expenses.  Applicants should obtain and submit the Application Form online via CUSIS.  MyCUHK > CUSIS and MyStudy > Financial Aid Online Appl Form > Public Application > click the magnifying glass to select ‘Student Travel Loan’.  Completed E-form should be submitted on or before March 2, 2012.  Applicants will be informed of the results by the end of April 2012 via CU webmail.  For enquiry, please contact Ms. Lee at 3943 7205.

 

CUHK SUMMER SUBSISTENCE LOAN SCHEME 2011/12【NEW】

Summer Subsistence Loan Scheme 2011/12 is now open for application.  This scheme is intended to provide interest-free loan to the financially needy students who will participate in no-pay placements, education programmes or extra-curricular activities in the summer of 2012.  Applicants should obtain and submit the Application Form online via CUSIS.  MyCUHK > CUSIS and MyStudy > Financial Aid Online Appl Form > Public Application > click the magnifying glass to select ‘Summer Subsistence Loan’.  Completed E-form should be submitted on or before March 31, 2012.  Applicants will be informed of the results by the end of May 2012 via CU webmail.  For enquiry, please contact Ms. Luk at 3943 1898.

 

LAHGUAGE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMME

English Table organized by the Programme is an occasion where exchange and local students meet for casual chats sharing their cultures and traditions as well as exchanging travel tips and other bits of life. With lots of new friends and a delicious free dinner, you are not going to miss it, are you? The upcoming English Tables will be held at Chung Chi Staff Club from 6:30pm to 8:30pm on February 14 and every Tuesday evening in February and March. Native or fluent English speakers please register by emailing to joycechan@cuhk.edu.hk. Other Chung Chi students please reserve seats through www.cuhk.edu.hk/eticket.

Chung Chi Toastmasters Club helps members polish their public speaking skills and build up self-confidence. Regular meetings are held every Saturday afternoon. Join us (either as a member or as a guest) at the Large Activity Room, 1/F Chung Chi Tang at 2:30pm on Saturdays if interested.

Language Seminar (conducted in Cantonese) is held every Wednesday evening. Dinner is served to cultivate a relaxing environment for sharing and discussion. Guest speaker of the upcoming Seminar on February 15 is Mr. IP Kin Ho Anthony, a writer and Instructor of the Department of Japanese Studies, CUHK. CHUNG CHI ALUMNI MUSICIANS SERIES – CHINESE MUSIC ( FEW TICKETS AVAILABLE! )

In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Chung Chi College, the College and the Department of Music jointly presents "Chung Chi Alumni Musicians Series". The third concert "Chinese Music" will be held on February 17, 2012 (Friday) at 8:00 p.m. in Lee Hysan Concert Hall, Esther Lee Building. The concert features two Chinese music ensembles, Chinese Music Virtuosi and the Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble. The key members of the two ensembles are CUHK Music alumni. Programmes vary from traditional Chinese folk music to contemporary Chinese music. Admission is free by ticket. Only a few tickets are left. POPULAR SCIENCE ESSAY AND POSTER COMPETITION – FINAL COMPETITION AND PRESENTATION CEREMONY

To promote popular science writing, the College organizes the Popular Science Essay and Poster Competition and invites secondary schools and tertiary institutions to participate in the competition. The competition is one of the College 60th Anniversary celebratory events. Twelve finalists (the Secondary School Division and the University Division each has six entries) are selected for the final competition, which will be held in Esther Lee Building on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 8:45a.m. The prize presentation ceremony will be held after the competition.
