With China's economic reform and the global impact of China's rise as the main theme, this course explores the problems confronting the Chinese economy and the challenges brought about by globalization. Designed for students without any training in economics, topics discussed in this course include: China's miracle growth, China's gradualist reform strategy, the impact of China's rise on international trade and finance, problems such as increasing income inequality and environmental degradation, state-owned enterprise reform and the emergence of the non-state economy, the crafting of financial markets, and macroeconomic volatility and macroeconomic control.
