Course Description

This course introduces students to various approaches for understanding the political economy in Asia. The class will focus on different paradigms that try to explain the rise and fall of the economy in a number of states in Asia. Topics to be covered include issues and concepts in political economy, relations between political institutions and economic development, the role of the state in economic change, transition from command to market economy, Asian cultural values and economic development, and Asian regional cooperation and globalization.
