Ionizing Radiation - Part B
Designed for
  ALL ionizing radiation users.
It is COMPULSORY for the above students to pass the safety examination; therefore this safety module is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Objectives
  At the end of the session, the pareticipant should be able to:
  • Know the safety procedures on using ionizing radiation (radioactive substances)
  • Understand the legal requirements in working with ionizing radiation

      1.5-hour illustrated presentation

  • Introduction to radiation monitoring
  • Using portable radiation monitors
    - Monitors for radiation level and contamination
    - Interpretation of readings
    - Calibration
  • Personal radiation monitoring device (TLD)
    - Introduction
    - Interpretation of readings
  • Wipe test

    Places in each group is strictly limited to 40, please register early to secure your seat.

    Remarks:
    1) Please click here for examination details. Students failed in the examination are required to re-sit in the very next session.
    2) Exemptions: Should you believe that any subject is not relevant, you may apply in writing giving reasons to the Director, Unversity Safety & Environment Office for exemptions.
    3) The lab safety manual and safety policy is accessible via Intranet: www.cuhk.edu.hk/useo/safety
    4) Summer safety training courses for undergraduate students are simplified versions of the proper safety courses to prepare students for their final year projects. These summer trainings are not eligible qualifications to apply for exemption from safety examination for postgraduate student.
