The ILC is a self-access independent learning centre located on 1/F, Wu Chung Multimedia Library, United College. It provides a wide range of resources to support self-directed learning and the ILC staff run workshops to support students in the use of the online materials. Free Workshops are workshops focusing on Chinese and English skills as well as learning strategies for both undergraduate and postgraduate students are offered throughout the year. Resource materials at the Centre include computer software, audio and video tapes, CD-ROMs, books and public examination practice materials.

The ILC offers:

• Online materials and self-learning packages: the online materials can be found at http://www.ilc.cuhk.edu.hk
  
  
• Regular Workshops : the workshops are related to study skills, independent learning strategies, Putonghua and English. Some popular Chinese workshops include impromptu public speaking, Chinese writing and interview skills and practical Putonghua. English workshops range from advanced grammar, academic writing, research skills, oral fluency, presentation skills, job interview skills to learning how to learn.
  
  
• Consultation: the ILC’s language consultation service is staffed by experienced instructors who help students solve their individual learning problems and guide them in their language enhancement work. Students are given 20 minutes to discuss their learning problems with the instructor. Same-day registration is required. (Call 3943-8733 to make an appointment).
  
  
• Public examination workshops: the workshops direct participants to useful resources which can help them pass public examinations such as TOEFL, IELTS, CRE and GRE.
  
  
• Language Exchange Partners (LEP): students can post their contact details on the ILC website’s “Language Exchange Partners” page to search for a partner to practise foreign languages. The information is cleared at the beginning of every semester.
