Workshop/seminar for target audience
Building Animated Cases for Effective Flipped Classroom

Facilitator: Agnes Fong (Instructional Designer), Centre for eLearning Innovation and Technology (ELITE), Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research (CLEAR)
Mr Billy Chung, Director of Business Development, GoAnimate
Mr Nelvin Lee, Senior Instructor, GoAnimate

Detail: Providing cases and scenarios to stimulate student thinking and learning is essential for flipped classroom. However, it can be difficult to capture video cases in a complex workplace situation that involve people and possibly expensive equipment. Creating simulated cases through animation can facilitate students to better grapple the dynamics and tacit situations. Students can have a fruitful discussion and debate of the cases while exercising critical analytical and reflection skills in class.

In the first part of the workshop, we will explore the use of rapid animation tools such as ‘GoAnimate’, ‘PowToon’ and ‘VideoScribe’ that allow you to produce animated cases based on the subject context without prior graphic or illustration skills. These tools would help you to build lively digital stories such as clinical consultations, negotiation in legal and business situations, and laboratory experiments for students to rehearse or analyse.

In the second part of the workshop conducted by GoAnimate Experts, you will practise building an animated case with ‘GoAnimate’ and a variety of templates in the tool is readily for use; no prior technical skills are required. By the end of the workshop, you will also gain a better understanding of planning, developing and organizing content in a simulated storyline to engage your students.
