Collaborating for Curriculum Improvement using Learning Analytics

Details:

This workshop presents the progress of an innovative UGC project using learning analytics for programme-level curriculum review. The project is a collaboration between The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Learning analytics are used in higher education where data from multiple sources can be aggregated to analyse student academic performance across programmes and identify students at risk.

Curriculum review, while crucial to assuring both student learning outcomes and learning and teaching quality can be a challenging and time consuming exercise for the academic team. This workshop aims to:
1.     illustrate the potential of learning analytics for programme-level curriculum review. It will demonstrate that learning analytics can make review processes and the implementation of review outcomes more academically rigorous, meaningful and less time consuming;
2.     demonstrate that a well-designed data driven review strategy provides sound evidence to improve learning and assessment design for academics;
3.     demonstrate a prototype of an automated Programme Review Tool and Curriculum Mapping Tool that supports the data driven review process.

Programme leaders, academic staff, academic and administrative staff responsible for quality improvement and faculty technical staff responsible for academic administration will find this workshop of value. Join us for a conversation about learning analytics for teaching and learning enhancement and the potential of an Excel tool to analyse academic data for review purposes.
