Abstract:
In this talk, Prof. Arthur Tsang and Prof. Scott Aubrey will report on a project, funded by the Grant Scheme for Internationalization of Curriculum, that responds to the call for internationalization at the programme, faculty and university level. The culmination of the project was an event that brought together international students from a variety of cultural backgrounds, current students in the BA (English Studies) & BEd (English Language Education) Co-terminal Double Degree Programme (ELED students), ELED alumni, instructors from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and special guests from the Hong Kong Education Bureau. During this one-day event, interactive sharing sessions were delevered by international students on the topic of English language use and English language education practices in contexts outside of Hong Kong. The aim was to enhance ELED students’ knowledge and broaden perspectives regarding the importance of the English language and English langauge classroom practices around the world. Features of the initiative will be highlighted, including the activities done, the reported benefits to students, as well as the challenges in organizing the event. Although the initiative was focused on benefiting ELED students specifically, the talk may also be of interest to faculty in other programmes and departments who want to captilize on the diverse experiences and knowledge of the international student body.

Internationalization of “In Dialogue with Nature”
By
Dr WONG Wing Hung, Senior Lecturer,
Deputy Programme Director of General Education Programme
and
Dr PANG Kam Moon, Senior Lecturer, General Education Foundation Programme

Abstract:
In Spring Term 2021, we made a first attempt to internationalize “In Dialogue with Nature” in collaboration with the course “Re-examining the Deterministic World of Matter” offered at the National University of Singapore, using online platform to facilitate a one-semester student exchange. For those 75 students from the two universities, such an arrangement provided opportunities (1) to think internationally: Students formed small groups and accomplished a joint project on such topics as consciousness and dream, depression and schizophrenia, and cupping therapy, many of which are related to Sustainable Development Goals; and (2) to learn internationally: By taking advantage of their diversity in knowledge and cultural background, students from the two universities kept close contact in the semester and finished the project satisfactorily. We will report on students’ achievements shown in the project.
