Reducing the subjectivity in grading written assignments
Facilitator: Professor David Kember, Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research

Detail: Students will not learn to write well unless they have to do written assignments. However, marking of written assignments can lead to complaints of subjectivity. This seminar introduces three criterion-based schemes as examples of how to reduce subjectivity.
  • A checklist for assessing the quality of presentations.
  • A taxonomy for grading essays according to the quality of the structure.
  • A scheme for assessing written work in terms of the inherent level of reflective thinking.

  • Date: 8 March 07, Thursday
    Time: 12:30pm - 1:30pm
Venue: Room 803, William M.W. Mong Engineering Building
