Adapting study approaches at school to suit the demands of university
Facilitator: Professor David Kember, Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research

Detail: The highly selective Hong Kong examination system often encourages students to concentrate on what is likely to appear in examinations and to remember model answers to potential questions. There is growing evidence of the difficulties students face in adapting these study approaches to ones more suited to university. This seminar will present some preliminary data from focus group interviews which shed some light on the types of transitions students have to make. This will be used as a spur to stimulate discussion on the variations in the nature of the transitions between disciplines and what might be done to help students make the transition.
