Problem-based learning
Facilitator: Professor Keith THOMAS
Associate Professor of Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Detail: The seminar will attempt to show how a course presenter can support the overall goal of their respective programs and/or majors, by using a problem-based learning (PBL) approach. This instructional method encourages a student directed learning strategy, wherein teachers become coaches, helping students to challenge assumptions, probe their thinking and help them find resources. Attendees should bring the syllabus for one of their courses to the session. You will be working by yourselves or in pairs and Keith will also share some examples from his own teaching. He hopes to demonstrate that rather than an additional burden for faculty, a PBL approach can enhance the desired outcomes and be a great way to conceptualize what happens in classrooms.
