| Description: |
A good cohesive supervisor-student relationship is essential in assisting postgraduate research students achieve their learning outcomes. By negotiating expectations about the roles and responsibilities of both supervisor and student early on, the research journey for both parties can be engaging and rewarding. This workshop will provide a practical overview of best research supervision practices, including explicit examples from the Faculties of Arts and Science. We will discuss strategies to help supervisors support and manage their postgraduates successfully.

Matching student's needs and supervisor's style of supervision process
Student Perceptions of Research Supervision Questionnaire (hands on activity).
Participants will play either “supervisor” or “student”. In pairs, complete the questionnaire independently, and then compare answers with each other. Where there are significant differences, “supervisor” and “student” discuss and negotiate with each other.
