Project Objectives

This project aimed to:

  • have conversations across the University;
  • produce outcomes-based approach (OBA) guides at course level;
  • work in programmes in all faculties; and
  • produce exemplars of an OBA to course design.

  • Projects seeking to institutionalize support services across a university need to be evolutionary in nature. The overall aim was to set up an institutionalized OBA support service. This has been achieved as the Course Outline Service complements existing consultations at programme level with all undergraduate programmes.

    Evaluation of outcomes

  • In establishing the Course Outline Service, approximately 700 course outlines were formally evaluated before the end of 2007.
  • The data collected in programmes where two analyses of a batch of course outlines occurred clearly show the enhancement that took place.
  • The adoption of the course template at University level is evidence of perceived value. This will be incorporated into the Chinese University Student Information System (CUSIS).
  • Dissemination of results & deliverables

    • Presentations were made in several CLEAR workshops (including orientation sessions and required professional development courses for new teachers at CUHK), and in several departments, including Chinese Medicine, English, Linguistics and Psychology.
    • The materials on the ‘OBA@CU’ and the ‘Course planning and review’ websites are the deliverables.
    • A CLEAR brochure has also been produced.
