Project Objectives

This project was designed to provide a service for hosting innovative technology in teaching and learning. It aimed to functionally test and run pilot trials with new technology in authentic teaching situations in the HK context. There are two main objectives.

  • Focused on new learning management tools. The project began with the introduction of the Learning Activity Management System (LAMS) (http://www.lamsfoundation.org/). The project invited pioneering teachers to use the functions of these new tools and systems in authentic teaching situations.
  • Focused on hosting complex learning objects. This involves a fully functional server for teachers to use with a variety of objects so as to bring maximal learning benefits to their students.

Evaluation of outcomes

  • The promotion of the LAMS learning tool was publicized through many campus-wide promotional activities: email advertisement of the service, three workshops held during the period, a website, and service reported in an eLearning online newsletter. Two courses (benefiting over 60 students) trialed LAMS in the second term of 2006–07.
  • The hosting service for learning objects was targeted at serving a few experienced eTeachers on a small number of trial runs of eLearning strategies. Projects supported included Chinese Medicine eCases, use of eLearning strategies in three cohorts of in-service English teachers who were taking a Master’s level taught programme in the Department of English, summer English bridging course at Yan Chai Hospital No. 2 Secondary School, summer Phonics Workshop at Yan Chai Hospital No. 2 Secondary School, and self-learning quizzes for Form 1 to 3 at Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School.
  • Evaluation data have also been collected for a number of teacher projects both within the University and in the school sector.

Dissemination of results & deliverables

As well as the venues for dissemination noted above, two papers have been published – one refereed conference paper on the use of LAMS and a journal article on the use of eCases in Chinese Medicine.
