Celebration Party

Professor Charles K. Kao, former Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and ‘Father of Fibre Optics’, put forward his groundbreaking idea about fibre optics over four decades ago, eventually revolutionizing communication and ushering in a new era of telecommunications. As Professor Ambrose King, former Vice-Chancellor, exclaimed, ‘This is something that changed the world!’

Professor Kao was awarded this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics. The news thrilled the Hong Kong community and all CUHK members are privileged to share the joy and honour. The University held a celebration the day after the Nobel Prize announcement. Many University members and guests spoke on the occasion, exchanging anecdotes about Professor Kao. They toasted Professor Kao’s outstanding achievements and the celebration climaxed with a photo taking session, in which some 100 teachers and students joined together to send their warm congratulations to Professor and Mrs. Kao together.
