Bing Thom is one of Canada's most admired and accomplished architects and is the principal of Bing Thom Architects (BTA), a Vancouver-based firm he founded in 1980. Born in Hong Kong and a graduate of the University of British Columbia and the University of California at Berkeley, Bing is a dedicated and artful city-builder whose global reputation has risen in consort with that of Vancouver, the city he has done much to protect, and to improve. His commitment to using great architecture to improve the urban context and social condition has been recognized by a range of honours including the Order of Canada, the Golden Jubilee Medal, honorary degrees from SFU and UBC, and an honorary professorship from Tongji University in Shanghai. Most recently Bing was the receiver of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s 2011 Gold Medal, and his firm was also the winning Architectural Firm of the Year in 2010.

Bing Thom Architects have produced a portfolio of built work that garners praise not only for its inspired spaces and forms, but for the inspirational role their buildings play in the lives of the communities they call home. Founding Principal, Bing Thom, will share his experience in the transformative power of architecture to uplift the physical, economic and social environment in this public lecture.
