The Centre for Culture and Development (CCD) was approved to be established in November 2008 by the Chinese University of Hong Kong within the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies (CRS). The vision of the Centre is to promote the synergy between culture and development through excellence and leadership in research. The missions of the Centre are as follows:
  • to respond to both the local and international needs and trends in research on culture and development viz cultural heritage and policy, cultural and creative industries and culture-led city development and regeneration;

  • to consolidate research strength and expertise by stages within the department, faculty, university and Hong Kong;

  • to establish research excellence in Hong Kong and the region by building up research collaborative efforts with national and international research institutions;

  • to become in the long run a national and international research centre.

The centre will be administered under an Executive Committee responsible for the administrative, academic, financial and personnel matters. The Executive Committee will submit report annually to an Advisory Board and the Department Board of CRS. The Executive Committee consists of staff of CRS and CUHK and other Hong Kong personnel in culture and development.

The Advisory Board consists of international experts in culture and development. Its role is to advise the centre on the general direction of research and activities and to promote and help establish connections for the centre with the international community. Membership of both the Advisory Board and Executive Committee will be renewable on a two-yearbasis starting from the inauguration date of the Centre on 18 April 2009.
