A Computerized Database of the Excavated Wood/Bamboo and Silk Scripts (CD-ROM) Jianbo are texts written on wood, bamboo or silk strips during the late Warring State and Qin-Han periods (400 BCÐ220 AD). Including a variety of original records such as financial accounts, medical prescriptions, correspondence and official documents etc. in addition to book texts, Jianbo texts provide a clear cross-sectional view of the periods when China was undergoing the most rapid and violent social and political transition. As the Jianbo texts help to reshape our perception of ancient Chinese civilization, the Institute of Chinese Studies put forward a proposal in 1994 for the establishment of a computerized database of all published excavated wood/bamboo and silk texts. The project is led by Professor Jao Tsung-i, an acknowledged expert in this field and Dr. F. C. Chen, Director of the Institute of Chinese Studies. The basic emendation work is mainly done by Ms. Shen Jian-hua. Further improvements and amendments are made with the help of many mainland experts like Professor Li Xue-qin, Professor Zeng Xian-tong and Mr. Li Jun-ming. The academic efforts of all the experts contribute to an invaluable research tool of high quality. The database includes the following nine works:
