Description of strategy
The Stars and Our Lives' is a University General Education Course which introduces the cultural and historical aspects of Astronomy, as well as the relationships between cosmic events and human lives, to students with little or no science background.
Materials developed
  1. Photos, custom-made illustrations and computer animations
  2. Stellarium – a free night sky simulation software available on the web (www.stellarium.org)
  3. Course outline, lecture notes, notice board, discussion forums and interesting links to students
Students' role Screen captures
Students make use of the software to develop their own knowledge of the cultural and historical aspects of Astronomy, as well as the relationships between cosmic events and human lives.

 

Teachers' role
Teachers explain relevant concepts and principles by using photos, animations and discussion forum.
