2017 Blackboard New Features

Blackboard is again the selected provider of our LMS for the upcoming five years. This summer, we will upgrade it to the latest version for improved user experiences and better performance.

This info page intends to provide details on new features which you will see in the upgraded system

The New System Navigation

Activity Stream

This is an up-to-the-minute activity list (stream) on the first page you see after logging into Blackboard. It captures all the action in your courses. You can see what's new in your courses and jump directly into course activities from the list.

New "Courses" Page

Your courses now appear as Course Cards on the new Courses page. Each course card lists the course title, instructor, and course ID. You can use the Filter By menu to modify your view of the page. Your filtered list stays as you access courses.

Open Your Courses

You can now point to a course card to access management icons such as the lock. You can open your course (make your course avaialble to students) by simply clicking the lock. Clicking on the lock again will make it private again.

New Global "Grades" Page

This is the page at which you can see everything that needs grading in your courses. All your grading tasks are organized by course. No need to navigate to each course to see what's ready for grading anymore.

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Blackboard Collaborate with the Ultra Experience is a fully redesigned broswer-based web conferencing application built for education that is reliable, simple and convenient for end users to be connected anytime, anywhere. High-quality audio and video, chat, interactive whiteboard, application sharing, session recording, all you need for interactive exchange with your students are there.

Submission Receipts

When students submit assignments successfully, the Review Submission History page appears with information about their submitted assignments and a success message with a confirmation number. Students can copy and save this number as proof of their submissions and evidence for academic disputes. For assignments with multiple attempts, students receive a different number for each submission. Students will also receive an email with a confirmation number and other details for each submission.

Send Reminders About Missing Coursework

You can send email reminder from Grade Center columns to students and members of groups who have missing coursework. Students receive a system-generated email that lists the course, coursework, and the due date if you assigned one. You receive a success message at the top of the screen when the email is sent.

Drag and Drop

You are now able to drag and drop files from your computer into the Attachments area. Drag files from your computer to the "hot spot" in the Attach Files area. If your browser allows, you can also drag a folder of files.
