Introduction

• Among all  the undergraduate Economics programmes in Hong Kong, we have the largest number of major students.
• Among local universities, we have the largest number of Economics graduate who have gone overseas for further studies.Many of them have completed doctoral programmes in top universities, including Oxford, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Berkeley, among others. After graduation, they have taught in prestigious universities, including the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, the University of Washington, and the University of Southern California. In Hong Kong, we have graduates taking up teaching positions in each of the seven universities.

 

Our undergraduate programme emphasises balanced development of theory, applications, and analytical skills. Special reference is made to experiences of Hong Kong, the Mainland and East Asia. Starting from 1998-1999, each student is allowed to choose up to three areas of concentration from the following:

• Banking and Finance
• Empirical Finance and Real Estate
• Chinese Economy
• International Economics

 

In the last five years fifteen young faculty members have been recruited to strengthen the teaching and research capabilities of the Department. In terms of publication record, we have been ranked as one of the top Economics department in Asia.
