2008 HKEA Fifth Biennial Conference -- call for paper

The Hong Kong Economic Association has been hosting its biennial conferences in Hong Kong since 2000. Each time we had world class scholars including Nobel Laureates in Economics and prominent leaders including the Financial Secretary and the Secretary for Financial Services to serve as keynote speakers. Each time it is well attended, with participants coming from countries across the world. The success of this event has been made possible by the united effort of all seven universities in Hong Kong.

This year we are co-organizing the biennial event with the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in Chengdu. The conference will be held in Chengdu during December 14-16, 2008. December 14 will be the day of arrival and check-in etc., and December 15-16 will be two full days of conference. We have already successfully invited, as keynote speakers, Prof. James Mirrlees, the 1996 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, Prof. Michael Greenstone of MIT and Editor of Review of Economics and Statistics, Prof. Derek Neal of the University of Chicago and Editor of Journal of Political Economy, Prof. Andrea Prat of LSE and Managing Editor of Review of Economic Studies, Prof. Mark Rosenzweig of Yale University and Editor-in-chief of Journal of Development Economics, and Prof. Chris Taber of University of Wisconsin-Madison and Editor-in-chief of Journal of Labor Economics, We are in the process of inviting more keynote speakers.

Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan Province. The city and its adjacent areas are famous for its natural beauty and long history. Among the 20+ universities specializing in economics and finance in China, SWUFE is the largest (20K students) and one of the best.

Here is a website about the city of Chengdu, one of the best cities in China:
