กฐ Introduction
Water is our most precious resource. Like energy, the management of water resources is directly related to Sustainability. We have replaced over nine hundred faucet aerators in wash rooms for better water conservation. From the test it saved one third of water use in washrooms. We also enhanced the lake water usage by installing hammer ramp pumps to enhance the irrigation system on the upper part of Chung Chi Campus.
For water auditing we have initiated a project for installing sub-main water meters in gauging fire service water usage on campus. It provides chances for more water saving through proper control of water usage effectively.
We also planned to install grey water recycle facilities for collecting the wash basin water from academic buildings like Science Centre Complex and reuse it for cleaning and other purposes. Another grey water recycle project is also initiated at Hadden Cave Sport Ground for collecting wash basin waters and the process cooling water from the Physics Lab at Romney Hut No. 8 to reuse it for cleaning and irrigation on green roofs, The works will help to reduce more potable water usage on campus.
Unlike other universities the fire service water on our campus has to be paid at the University Cost. We planned to stringent the use of fire service water through proper monitoring and recording methods to achieve potable water saving in a sustainable manner..
EMO is implementing a new project of reducing the water use on the swimming pool. The pool is reshaped to meet the sustainability requirements and meet the operations for the public and stakeholders on campus.
กฐ Water Conservation Projects
Upgrade infrastructure projects like:
The construction of auto water dam operation in Wei Yuen Lake has improved the storage and collection of stream water for supplementary supply of cooling water and flushing water for buildings on campus. The storage can provide up to 700,000 litres of water for daily consumption.
The upgrade of the water facilities in washrooms has in fact trimmed down the water consumption at certain demand. Over 2000 sets of auto water taps were installed in washrooms to replace the conventional type. It ensured that the water taps can be turned off when it is not in used. Over 900 faucet aerators have been installed to reduce water usage effectively.
The construction of water meters to gauge the water system usage is an initial step of analyzing our water consumption trend. It will provide further information and data for benchmarking our water system for various types of buildings on campus. Unlike other Universities our campus Fire Service Water is charged at potable water rate. Therefore proper monitoring of our water system is extremely essential.
The installation of Grey water recycle plant is also one of the major projects in water conservation. It will provide chances for further reduce our potable water consumption and helps to reduce the amount of waste water discharges.
