Q.5      :     Can students take any minor programs or double majors?

Ans.     :     Students can take up to two minor programs at their own choice.  We recommend GLOBE students to take a language subject from Japanese, French, Italian, German and Spanish as a minor.

Students can be granted double majors if they could complete the requirements of two majors within the normal period of study.  Students may, if they so choose, declare a second major at the beginning of their last term of attendance within the normative study period.  Before they make the declaration, students must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in all the courses taken before their last term of attendance.  Registration for the second major is subject to the approval of the two major departments concerned.

Q.6      :     If I have not taken TOEFL/IELTS yet, can I still apply?

Q.11    :     How much is the tuition fees and living cost for the three-year of study?

Ans.     :     The current tuition fees are HK$42,100 per year.  The hostel and living costs in Hong Kong are estimated HK$3,000 per month.  The living cost in Denmark and USA, including airfares, local transportation and study trips totals US$20,000 approximately.  Therefore, the total cost of the program is about HK$354,300 (HK$42,100x3 + 3,000x12x2 + 20,000x7.8).  It costs students HK$120,000 more than students of other programs.

Q.21    :     Do you have any particular admission formula?  What is the minimum requirement?

Ans.     :    Our admission formula = 50% HKCEE + 50% HKALE, where

HKCEE = Chi, Eng and Math + 4 best subjects

HKALE = AS Chi + AS Eng + 2 best AL subjects (OR 1 AL + 2 AS subjects)

                  (Notes:

                  - Bonus for additional passed AL subjects 0.125 for A, 0.1 for B, 0.075 for C, 0.05 for D, 0.025 for E

                  - Bonus for additional passed AS subjects 0.0625 for A, 0.05 for B,

                    0.0375 for C, 0.025 for D, 0.0125 for E

                  - HKCEE Chi and Math double-counted

                  - HKALE AS Use of Eng double-counted)

                  Example:

                  A student gets:        HKCEE Eng (A), Chi (B), Math (B), 4 subjects (C)

                                                HKALE Eng (B), Chi (C), 3 AL subjects (C)

                                                (Grade A = 5 points, Grade B = 4 points, etc.)

Therefore, he will totally get 3.551 points (1.833 + 1.718).

Note: CUBA reserves the right to amend or alter the components and/or weighting of the admission formula and evaluation criteria without prior notice.

Q.23    :     What are the strengths of CUHK Global Business Studies when compared with the similar programs of HKU and HKUST?

Ans.     :     CUHK Global Business Studies is a structured and internationally-oriented program jointly developed by three top-ranked business schools.  Students from the three schools will study together as one cohort on three continents.  They will spend one term in Denmark, one summer in Hong Kong and one term in US.  This enables them to learn real global business.  Besides, they will participate in 6 to 8 study trips to Europe, Asia and US to reinforce their class-based learning.  They will learn business knowledge with different cultural contexts from quality professors.  This is very different from general exchange programs, which send students to different overseas universities.

Students admitted to Global Business Studies are required to take Professional Chinese and three English business courses.  They are also encouraged to take a language, such as Japanese and French as a minor subject.  Since students from the three business schools will study together, they can better understand the cultures of each other, form friendship, and most importantly build up an international network that can be extended beyond school life.

Q.24    :     Are 60% of courses taught in English at CUHK?

Ans.     :     Yes, and students should also have at least a grade C in HKCEE English (Syllabus B) or in HKALE AS Use of English.

Ans.     :     Interviews are very important in the admission selection process.  In addition to interview performance, HKCEE and HKALE results will be considered.

Q.29    :     Do you accept students transferring from other majors?

Ans.     :     No

Q.30    :     Will students be invited for an interview?  Do students being interviewed have a higher chance of admission?

Q.37    :     Does a higher TOEFL score help?

Ans.     :     Meeting the minimum requirement of TOEFL is fine enough.

Q.38    :     If I obtained 250 at TOEFL for the first attempt, does it worth a second trial in order to get a higher score?

Ans.     :     No

Q.39    :     If I fail to obtain a grade C at HKALE AS Use of English, can I sit for TOEFL again?  If my TOEFL score is high, will I be considered as having met the entrance requirements?

Ans.     :     No.  Students should meet both the requirements of HKALE AS Use of English (or HKCEE English Language (Syllabus B)) and TOEFL.

Q.40    :     Do Global Business Studies students need to choose a concentration area?

Ans.     :     No.  Global business is the concentration area/major of Global Business Studies.  Yet, students can make use of the electives offered by each of the 3 institutions worldwide - 2 electives at CUHK, 2 electives at CBS and 3 electives at UNC to develop a second concentration.
