Reduce Use of Air-conditioners

Install thermometer to monitor room temperature.

Air conditioners emit air pollutants and greenhouse gases, damaging the environment and health. Environmental concern group Footprint organizes the No Air-con Day on 1st June each year. We can adopt the following methods in our daily lives to reduce the use of air-conditioners to save energy and alleviate global warming.

  • Set indoor temperature at 25.5 XC during summer for maximum thermal comfort.
  • Dress down. Remove neck ties and jackets.
  • Program the air-conditioner timer. Switch it off one hour before you get up.
  • Switch off air-conditioner when you leave the room.
  • Clean the dust screen regularly to improve energy efficiency of the air-conditioner.
  • Avoid direct sunlight on the air-conditioner.
  • Shade the light with curtains.
  • Use energy saving light bulbs which release less heat than traditional ones.
  • Purchase air-conditioners with Grade 1 Energy Label.
  • Use electrical fans.
