Chairman's Announcements (November 25)
The current episode of gastroenteritis occurring in the community is understood to be a mild form of Viral Infection that is not uncommonly seen. It is mild, self-limiting and lasts for a few days only. Most of the reported cases occur in institutions like primary schools, child care centres and home for the elderly. The main symptoms are diarrhea and vomiting. Prevention relies mainly on personal, food and environmental hygiene. No effective vaccine is available for its control.
General Measures
Staff and students are advised to follow good personal hygiene particularly in hand washing; report to a physician if symptoms of fever, nausea, malaise, vomiting and/or diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps occur, and take sick leave if symptoms persist.
Preventive Environmental Hygiene measures including canteen inspection; disinfection of public toilets and contaminated place are being taken. Special examination guidelines and arrangements will be prepared.
