Medical Screening for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in UHS

Any University staff or student who consider themselves possible "close contacts" of a SARS patient and are suffering from fever or respiratory or other symptoms should come to the University Health Service for medical advice.

Anybody who feels (or is confirmed by the UHS) that they are having a fever but has never come into contact with a SARS patient will be arranged at designated area to minimize the transmission of infection.

Please call UHS on 26096439 and state your request. We will arrange for you a special consultation session.

Suggested Criteria for Medical Screening for SARS

PWH medical experts and UHS advise that medical screening should only be limited to those who meet ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Fever; AND
  2. One or more respiratory symptoms including cough, shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing; AND
  3. Close contact with a confirmed SARS patient. Close contact means someone who cares for, lives with, or has direct contact with the respiratory secretions or body fluids of a person with SARS.

Medical screening for anybody NOT having the above three conditions is not necessary and should not come to UHS.

Note: If you are not feeling well otherwise, you can continue to have medical consultation in UHS.
