Latest Clinical Information and Statistics Update

1.         Situation on the CUHK Campus

POSITION AS OF 26 May 2003

Among the students who normally have their classes on campus or are hostel residents, 4 have history of SARS infection. They have all recovered. No cross infection from them to other students has been noted. There is no record of any staff who work on campus having been infected with SARS. There is also no record at present of any student or staff who are currently under observation for suspect SARS infection or as close contacts.

 

 

POSITION AS OF 22 May 2003

PROBABLE CASE (DOCUMENTED CASE)

(Probable Case or Documented Case refers to student or staff who lives or works on campus and has been documented by hospital as a SARS patient.)

4 students who have their classes on campus or are hostel residents had been infected.  All have long been discharged from the hospital.  No cross infection from student to student has been noted.  No staff who normally work on campus has been hospitalised for SARS.

Two Year 3 Medical Students, One Year 1 PAC Student and One Year 1 EE Student have recovered from the SARS infection.  No more new case is documented.

SUSPECT CASE

(Suspect Case refers to student or staff who lives or works on campus and who has been admitted for investigation of SARS infection.)

All students or staff admitted to hospital as Suspect Case have recovered.  No new case is recorded.

 

 

POSITION AS OF 20 May 2003

PROBABLE CASE (DOCUMENTED CASE)

(Probable Case or Documented Case refers to student or staff who lives or works on campus and has been documented by hospital as a SARS patient.)

4 students who have their classes on campus or are hostel residents had been infected.  All have long been discharged from the hospital.  No cross infection from student to student has been noted.  No staff who normally work on campus has been hospitalised for SARS.

EE Year 1 Non Resident Student of UC

This student had stayed in hospital from 26 March to 3 May for SARS.  At present, he is recovering well.  He will sit for his examination on 28 May.  However, he still requires to attend the Specialist Clinic on 31 May for check up.  

Two Year 3 Medical Students and One Year 1 PAC Student were admitted to hospital in March.  They have completely recovered from the infection.

Postgraduate Non Resident Student of School of Education

This student had been treated in hospital for suspect SARS from 8 April to 22 April. She has recovered and no more follow up at hospital is required.

4 students who have their classes on campus or are hostel residents had been infected.  All have long been discharged from the hospital.  No cross infection from student to student has been noted.  No staff who normally work on campus has been hospitalised for SARS.

EE Year 1 Non Resident Student of UC

This student had stayed in hospital from 26 March to 3 May for SARS.  At present, he is recovering well.  However, he has been advised to continue with further follow up assessment at the Specialist Clinic on 31 May.  His Department is preparing him for his examination.

Two Year 3 Medical Students and One Year 1 PAC Student were admitted to hospital in March.  They have completely recovered from the infection.

Postgraduate Non Resident Student of School of Education

This student had been treated in hospital for suspect SARS from 8 April to 22 April. She has recovered.  However, the hospital still plans to see her again in a few days.
