For Department/Unit Heads, College and Faculty Offices, and Hostel Wardens on Suspected SARS/Pandemic and Avian Flu Patients
  1. All suspected SARS/Pandemic and Avian Flu cases should be reported to the UHS(i.e. the information coordinator) as soon as possible. Please contact UHS's Mrs Pauline Kan by phone: 26096436 or by e-mail pauline-kan@cuhk.edu.hk.
  2. Immediate medical check up should be arranged with the UHS or outside clinics/hospitals if needed.  Those not confirmed as a SARS/Pandemic and Avian Flu case should still receive follow ups accordingly.
  3. Places that confirmed patients have lived in or worked at should be disinfected.  (Please refer to Guidelines on Cleaning and Disinfection.)
  4. A list of Close Contacts* of a patient within the last 10 days should be prepared.  A copy of the list should be sent to Mrs Pauline Kan who will advise the Department of Health once the case is confirmed as a SARS/Pandemic and Avian Flu case.
  5. For those admitted to hospitals, Mrs Pauline Kan will liaise regularly with the hospital, the Department of Health and the patient to obtain the latest condition, status of diagnosis and determine if any action is needed for Close Contacts.
  6. UHS will then notify relevant Department/Unit Heads, Colleges, Faculty Offices, hostel wardens and the Chairman of the Committee on Health Promotion and Protection about the progress of suspected cases, once detail information is obtained.
  7. If the suspected person is a hostel-resident student with a roommate, the hostel warden should arrange the roommate to either go home or stay in a single room during the incubation period of 10 days.  Advice should be given to the roommate on personal hygiene and personal protection as detailed in other parts of this webpage.
  8. Before any staff or student who is a Close Contact comes to the UHS for medical consultation, he/she should ring the UHS at 26096439. UHS staff will advise on the special arrangements for the consultation.
