Human Swine Flu Preventive Guidelines -
Health Advice for Close Contacts

‘Close contact’ is a person who has cared for or lived with a person who is a confirmed case of human swine influenza, or has been in a setting where there is a high likelihood of contact with respiratory droplets and/or body fluids of such a person.

Currently,  Hong Kong has implemented mitigating measures to combat against the swine flu epidemic. At this moment, there is no requirement for hospital isolation of swine flu patients or quarantine of close contacts.

If you have been in close contact with H1N1 Human Swine Flu confirmed patient, please pay attention to the following:

  • Put on a face mask for 7 days, check and record own body temperature twice a day.
  • If feeling unwell or symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath or diarrhea occur, seek medical attention promptly.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene such as:
    • Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing, coughing or clearing your throat.
    • Do not spit anywhere in public.
    • Wash hands properly and thoroughly, using 70% alcohol-based hand rub is also effective if hand washing facility is not available.
    • Do not share eating utensils and personal items.
  • Seek medical care right away if the following warning signs develop:
