Human Swine Flu Preventive Measures -
For New Student Orientation Camps |
| To minimize the risk of spread of human swine flu (influenza A H1N1), students (including all O’Camp organizers and participants) should take note of the following measures: |
Before attending the O’Camp :
| 1. |
All students should take their own body temperature before attending the camp. Do not join the camp if having fever or feeling sick.
| 2. |
Besides personal items, bring along necessary medication, face masks and antiseptic gels.
| 3. |
Return the completed health declaration form when reporting attendance at the camp (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/health_promote_protect/health_declaration.pdf).
| 4. |
Organizers are urged to observe health and safety precautions in designing games and avoid activities that will increase risk of droplet transmission.
During the O’Camp :
| 5. |
Upon arrival at student hostels, students are required to have body temperature checked by hostel staff/O’Camp organizing committee members. This may prolong the check-in procedures and create some inconvenience, and cooperation of students is greatly appreciated.
| 6. |
If students do not feel well or have influenza-like symptoms, they can approach the hostel front-desk for checking body temperature. (Face masks, antiseptic gels and thermometers can be obtained at student hostels.) If fever of 38 ℃ and/or respiratory symptoms develops, wear a mask and seek medical attention promptly (clinic details listed below). The student should return home to take rest and should not join the remaining O’Camp activities even if fever has subsided.
| 7. |
Organizers are urged to observe health and safety precautions in leading games and avoid activities that will increase risk of droplet transmission.
| 8. |
Maintain good ventilation for indoor activities and avoid overcrowded situations.
| 9. |
All students, organizers and new students, should take adequate rest and sleep during the camp, as body immunity will decline due to over-tiredness. Students with chronic diseases and obesity should pay extra attention to their own health conditions.
| 10. |
Practise good hand hygiene. Use antiseptic gels to disinfect both hands before and after an activity, as well as before entering and leaving an activity venue (antiseptic gels are made available at activity venues, and dispensers have been installed at the main building entrances on campus).
| 11. |
Pay attention to personal hygiene at all times. Do not share personal items and eating utensils to prevent cross-infection.
| 12. |
Maintain a clean and sanitary environment. Arrange for cleaning and disinfection of venue after a function.
If a participant is confirmed with human swine flu :
| 13. |
The confirmed student may have already received medical treatment or has been admitted to hospital. This student should return home after being discharged from clinic/hospital and should not come back to the camp. He/she should not return to the camp even if fever has subsided.
| 14. |
O’Camp organizers should inform the family of this student and the Secretary of Joint Committee on New Student Orientation (contact number listed below), or the subject officer of respective Colleges whoever applicable. All other students should stay calm and inform their family of the situations.
| 15. |
O’Camp activities may proceed as scheduled. Special cleaning and disinfection work will be carried out at the affected locations.
| 16. |
To facilitate thorough cleansing exercise of the room, the roommate of the confirmed student should move to another room. The rest of the students can continue to stay in the same hostel. However, students of the same O’Camp and those having close contact with the confirmed student (with no flu-like symptoms) should all wear masks. They should observe their own health conditions and must check body temperature daily while staying in the O’Camp. They should seek medical attention promptly if influenza symptoms develop (clinic details listed below). (If they have left the camp, they should continue to wear masks for at least 7 days to prevent the spread of virus to family members or other people.)
| 17. |
If any student is confirmed infected with human swine flu after leaving the camp, he/she should inform the O’Camp organizer ( Faculty/Departmental Ocamp http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/orientation/ocamp/01.htm / College Ocamp http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/orientation/ocamp/tn_College_Ocamp.jpg ), who will notify the Secretary of Joint Committee on New Student Orientation (contact details listed below) or the subject officer of respective Colleges whoever applicable. The situation will be notified to the relevant departments and students concerned. |
