Study Scheme


Applicable to students admitted in 2008-09 and thereafter

  1. Coursework Requirements
    Students are required to complete a minimum of 24 units of courses for graduation.
    (a)
    Required Courses:
    6 units
    1. HIS5011

    2. At least 3 units chosen from
      "Special Topics in Public History"
      (HIS5507A, HIS5507B, HIS5518A, HIS5519A, HIS5523A, HIS5524A, HIS5528A, HIS5532A, HIS5557, HIS5559, HIS5561,HIS5515A and HIS5566) ; or
      "Special Topics in Comparative History"
      (HIS5506A, HIS5506B, HIS5506C, HIS5534, HIS5534A, HIS5534B, HIS5538, HIS5545A, HIS5552C, HIS5564 and HIS5565)

     
    (b)
    Elective Courses:
    18 units
    Any 18 units of courses to be chosen from the following:-  
    1. Seminar courses:-
      HIS7015, 7016, 7017

    2. HIS5000-level courses

    3. HIS3000-level courses and HIS4000-level courses
      Subject to prior approval by the Programme Director and consent of the course instructors, students are allowed to choose up to 9 units of 3000-level and 4000-level courses in the undergraduate curriculum, and these will count towards minimum course units for graduation if they achieve a course grade of B- or above.

  2. Other Requirements
(a)
IT Proficiency Requirements
  All students are required to pass the IT Proficiency Test before they graduate. Those who do not pass the Test will be barred from graduation. For details of the Test, please refer to the "Student IT Competence Programme" website: http://www.sitc.cuhk.edu.hk/
(b)
Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
  1. Remarks
(a)
According to 14.1(b) of General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies from the Graduate School, a student shall be required to discontinue studies in the Graduate School if there are failure grades in TWO courses or more.

Notes:

  1. If a student completes 24 units of courses (3 units per course) and intends to study any additional courses, an additional course fee is applied.
    In 2008/09,
    - for part-time students, tuition fee per additional course: $7,000
    - for full-time students, tuition fee per additional course: $7,500

  2. When a student wants to shorten his/her normative period of study, he/she shall apply in writing to the Graduate School. However, programme tuition will not be reduced.

  3. A student who wishes to obtain a leave of absence for no more than a year shall apply in writing to the Graduate School. If the application is approved by the Dean of Graduate School, a non-refundable fee shall be paid, i.e. $300 for a term and $600 for a year.

 

Applicable to students admitted in 2006-07 and 2007-08

  1. Coursework Requirements
    Students are required to complete a minimum of 24 units of courses for graduation.

      "Special Topics in Comparative History"
      (HIS5506A, HIS5506B, HIS5506C, HIS5534, HIS5534A, HIS5534B, HIS5538, HIS5545A, HIS5552C, HIS5564 and HIS5565)
