| Chinese Language Study Programs in Hong Kong |
| a. Intermediate and Advanced Putonghua Program at the Chinese Language Center (CLC) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) |
| The HKAC is collaborating with the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) in Washington DC to offer two programs in summer 2007 for advanced learning of Putonghua. One is for about twenty intermediate and advanced students form the US who will spend from June 18 - to August 12 in intensive language study with the Yale-in-China Chinese Language Centre on the campus of the CUHK. |
| b. Chinese Second Language Teacher Training Program at, the Chinese Language Center (CLC), The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIED) and Guangdong University Of Foreign Study (GDUFS) |
The other Mandarin study program is for twelve teachers of Chinese as a foreign language in American K-12 school settings. They will spend six weeks in HK, Guangzhou and Beijing starting in June 27th, 2007. The first phase will be at the HK Institute of Education (HKIED), the second phase will be in the Guangdong University of Foreign Study in Guangzhou, and third will take place in Beijing in the final week. Both of these new programs for Chinese language study and teacher training are
supported by the National Security Language Initiative of the US State
Department (Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, ECA) through a grant to CAORC. |

Summer Internships in HK for American Students |
The HKAC assists American universities to organize and monitor summer internships in Hong Kong business, government and non-profit organizations. In summer 2007 we have eight graduate students from the Graduate program in International Affairs at the New School who are spending eight weeks in NGOs studying media, urban planning and social services. We also support Yale University in arranging internships in businesses and NGOs for sixteen undergraduate Bulldogs over the summer. The HKAC also works with the Pacific Basin Economic Council in organizing internships in HK and the Asian region with their member companies. |

| Study Groups to Hong Kong/ South China |
a. St. Olaf College The HKAC offers a month-long program each November with the CUHK Fine Arts Department for thirty students in the St. Olaf Global Seminar. |
b. City University of New York – Diaspora and Globalization in South China The Honors College of the City University of New York sends a delegation of undergraduate students each year to HK and the Pearl River Delta in December and January for an "inter-semester" program on the Diaspora from south China to North America from the 19th century into the present era of globalization. Organized through the College of Statin Island of CUNY, this program is open to students from other American universities. Applications are welcome at the HKAC for the program starting in December 27th 2007 and ending on January 16 of 2008. c. Business Studies in Hong Kong and South China The HKAC organizes field study programs in HK and the PRD region for delegations of students from American universities each year. Examples are: University of South Florida: the St Petersburg and Tampa campuses of the USF send a delegation of American undergraduates in business studies each year to Hong Kong and the PRD in late May for a program organized by the HKAC focused on learning the role of China business in US - China relations. University of Maryland University College (UMUC) sends a group of MBA students each September for a program HKAC doer in conjunction with the China Business Centre of the HK Polytechnic University. George Mason University in Virginia also sends a MBA team to HK in early August each year organized by the HKAC. |
