This research conference brought together local, regional, and international experts on the collecting of data on LGBTI to discuss existing sources of data on LGBTI people, best practices in data collection, and strategies for analysis, as well as to identify gaps in research. Another aim was to understand the pathways to making an impact – namely, how LGBTI research can have a maximum impact in terms of social and policy engagement. It gave researchers of LGBTI issues an exciting opportunity to engage in dialogue with local service providers as well as with international agencies that influence policies, such as the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank.
