How to speed up .com.hk application?

As you all know, the volume of application is rising rapidly, resulting in in more time needed for processing all applications. We have, however, identified ways to speed up your .com.hk applications, and would like to recommend you to follow some procedures:

a) If you have not been requested to send us the Business Registration Certificate, we strongly recommend you to fill in the BRC number in the following way to reduce significantly the resubmission (and turnaround of application):

1. Purpose/Description.....: BRCNOTFAXED[12345678-000-09-99-1]

b) If you have been requested to send us the Business Registration Certificate, please use the following format instead when re-submit:

1. Purpose/Description.....: BRCFAXED[12345678-000-09-99-1]

Since holders of Certificate of Incorporation and Certificate of Registration of Overseas Company need to be registered under the Business Registration Ordinance, to simplify the application, please use their BRC number instead of other certificate numbers. Please fill in all 16 digits with proper hyphenation.

The BRC number and the organization name are important information of the end user. As you know, a new HKNIC with wide representation will probably be formed in the near future. These information will probably be used to identify the registrant that can use the name. If these information are incorrect, the end user may not be able to use the domain name anymore. Moreover, the information can also be used to identify companies with similar or even exactly the same company names.

Meanwhile, we have received some complaints that the complainant's company name (Limited company) have been used without authorization to register totally unrelated names. After investigation, we notice that some applicants are less than serious at filling out the organization name. Some "companies" do not even exist. In most cases, these domain names have to be deleted or put on hold.

To reduce such disturbances, and to speed up processing, we would like to invite you to put in the BRC number for most of your new .com.hk application since we will ask for the BRC number quite frequently soon.

Again, please please do not send us any certificate we have not requested explicitly. We are already overloaded with documents. Your unsolicitied faxed document will only cause more--instead of less--delay for your application.

We are currently studying the feasibility to check the Business Registration of the end user directly with IRD instead of asking for copies of certificate. This way, you can save the hassle and time to fax (and sometimes fax again, and again) documents to us, a very time counsuming process. The above suggested procedures will also help us to migrate to the new verification system sooner.

Please note these if we request you to send us copies of Business Registration Certificate.

Once in a while we receive copies of certificate that we cannot accept. They can only cause more delay to your application. Please bear in mind that,

  • Only Business Registration Certificates can be accepted; please do not send Branch Registration Certificates.
  • The BRC should bear a machine-printed line for record of payment. That mean it must not be just a demand note. Collection notices are not acceptable either.
  • The BRC must still be valid (not expired) when you send your application.
  • The BRC should be issued by Hong Kong's Business Registry rather than any other foreign registries.

Thanks a lot for helping us to process your applications faster.
