The Crisis of Modern Art and Contemporary Figurative Expressionism Painting
Szeto Lap & Jin Guantao
Now published (Mar 1999)

The Crisis of Modern Art and Contemporary Figurative Expressionism Painting (in Chinese) is yielded from a joint study by an artist and a philosopher. It is the first research of its kind that introduces the works and the pursuit of figurative expressionism painters as from Alberto Giacometti to nowaday artists. Through examining this French school of painting, the authors attempt to illustrate a new direction of painting in the twenty-first century. There are four main parts in this book. A Dialogue Between Art and Philosophy is a digest of correspondences between the two authors, exploring certain problems that modern art and philosophy have been encountering. Research on Figurative Expressionism Painting investigates the nature of this school of art as well as its significance to the future development of painting. The Artists enters the aesthetic worlds of figurative expressionism painters as from those important pioneers to the suceeding generation. Selection of Works displays 162 pieces of works of 28 artists, each work occupying an individual colour plate.

We sincerely recommend this book to all those who are concerned with the development of modern art.
