R E S E A R C H _____________ The Art Museum fosters research on Chinese art through academic lectures and symposia. Symposia are usually held in connection with exhibitions. There are international symposia such as "Paintings and Calligraphy of the Ming I-min" , "Paintings of the Ming Dynasty" , New Studies in Chinese Art and Antiquities" and "Chinese Archaic Seals" Scholars from China, United States, Japan, United Kingdom and Austria gathered and exchanged their views on specific topics. There are also one-day symposia such as "Jades of the King of Nanyue" and "Yixing Zisha Wares". Academic lectures are organized either to accompany exhibitions or by special invitation. The objective is to benefit from the expertise of distinguished scholars of Chinese art and archaeology. In recent years, outstanding scholars who have visited the Art Museum include Mr. Xu Bangda, Mr. Guo Dashun, Mr. Peng Shifan , Mr. Yang Boda, Mr. Xia Gengqi, Ms. Zhang Rong, Mr. chan Chong Chang all specialists in the field of painting and calligraphy, jades, bronzes inscribed bamboo slips and Ming and Qing art crafts. There are several research projects on the Art Museum collection carried out by the Art Museum staff who are joined by noted scholars in that particular subject. Recent projects include "Ancient Chinese bronze seals", "Art and Culture of Guangdong in Late Ming to Qing", "Ceramics with Studio Marks", "Yixing Zisha Wares" and "Glass of the Qing period". Scholars who participated include Mr. Xie Wenyong, Mr. Li Zhiyan, Mr. Ye Qifeng, Mr. Gu Jingzhou and Ms. Terese Tse Bartholomew. |
