Message from the Vice-Chancellor
Welcome to The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), one of the finest universities in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The University campus, situated on a 134-hectare site rising from the serene Tolo harbour just north of Sha Tin, perfectly blends the tranquility of the suburb and the energy of the city.
CUHK is committed to excellence in teaching and research. Uniquely in Hong Kong, CUHK adopts the college system; the constituent colleges are Chung Chi, New Asia, Shaw and United. We hold steadfast the traditions of bilingualism and biculturalism in teaching, grooming students to become global citizens at home in both Eastern and Western culture. The University's general education programme trains students to be generalists within specializations, ensuring that they graduate with wide interests and broad perspectives. We provide a stimulating and supportive learning environment, and we offer an extensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses that cater both to the individual's intellectual development and society's changing needs.
We take pride in the preference shown by Joint Universities Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) applicants, and in the superior academic standard of our students. In recent years, seven of our graduates have received scholarships for further studies at Oxford; these include five Rhodes Scholars and two Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholars. Our Executive MBA Programme has been ranked by prominent international business publications as the best in Asia. The University enjoys a territorial and international reputation for excellence in research: three out of the six "Areas of Excellence" chosen and funded by the University Grants Committee are conducted by CUHK staff. We are proud of the achievements recorded in the brief span of 39 years, and look forward to even greater contributions to education and scholarship, and in serving the community.
I invite you
to join us and to experience the pleasure and pride of being a member of
The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Ambrose Y C King
Vice-Chancellor
