Rolling Banner

All CUHK departments/offices/units can make use of the rolling banner on the CUHK homepage to promote their events. Other items of importance may be placed subject to approval by University senior management. The banner is located at the right bottom corner of the CUHK homepage. If a user's web browser is JavaScript-enabled, he/she will see banners scrolling upwards. If not, he/she will see any one of the available banners, which has been randomly selected and displayed by the system. When the user clicks on a banner, he/she is taken to the page with details about the item.
What banner users need to know

Only CUHK departments/offices/units can post a banner.

Each department/office/unit should post only one banner at a time.

Each banner will be put up for two weeks at most to ensure only the latest activities are being promoted.
Each banner must be linked to a related webpage with details of the item.
Activities held by student organizations will not be entertained.
Requests will be entertained on a first-come-first-served basis and as long as the set capacity is not exceeded.

The requesting department/office/unit shall be responsible for the design and content of the banner. We reserve the right to refuse launching any banner that is deemed inappropriate.
Please allow us three days to process the request.

All course related banners will be grouped together under the page "Learning News" (URL: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/v6/banner/learning_news.html). For this page, instead of limiting each department, we limit each programme to one banner. The banner can also be posted until the end of the application period.

To submit your entry
Please email the following 2 URLs to www-admin@cuhk.edu.hk.
URL of the banner graphic
The graphic can be in GIF or JPG format.

The graphic should be 200 pixels wide x 50 pixels tall.

Please avoid using animated GIF as we are trying to minimize the blinking and flashing on an already scrolling banner.
Please ensure the file size is small. If you are using Photoshop and the file is in JPG format, try saving it in 'Medium' or even 'Low' quality mode.
To ensure rolling banners on the homepage are consistent with the look and feel of the site's top-level pages, the following set of banner design guidelines are effective from 15 January 2007:
    Banner Design Guidelines (Jan 2007)
    Banner background templates
    Size of rolling banner
Font types, size and colour used
    Samples of rolling banner
URL of the details page
The details page should preferably be in HTML, GIF or JPG format.

Please avoid using formats that need to be displayed using an external viewer, such as PDF and DOC as these may require extra program loading time.
