| Unauthorized electronic transmission
of audio, audio/visual recordings of musical works,
e.g., MP3 format, by way of distribution and/or
making these recordings available for downloading
via the Internet is restricted by copyright law.
It is liable for both criminal prosecution and
civil action.
It is also a violation of ITSC copyright policy
stated in Section 7 of Acceptable
Use Policy and Guidelines. It is regarded
as a serious infraction of our policy and guidelines
and will be subject to penalties as stated in
Section 9.2.3 of Acceptable Use Policy and Guidelines
:
"More serious infractions, such as unauthorized
use, attempts to steal password or data, attempts
to steal licensed software, and attempts to damage
computer facilities (inside or outside the University)
will result in temporary, THREE months, or permanent
loss of ITSCnet access privileges. The case will
also be escalated to the University authorities
for further action. If the offender is a student
of the University, the case will be referred
to the Dean of the student's college or the Graduate
School for appropriate action. If the offender
is a staff member of the University, the case
will be referred to the appropriate University
authority for further action."
