The Novell Academic License Agreement (ALA) is a simple, flexible contract, which has been designed exclusively for higher education establishments (colleges and universities). The Agreement provides the University with the 'right to use' Novell software for a fixed Annual Fee, thus making it similar to a 'leasing' agreement. This style of agreement allows the University to avoid the usual budget constraints and analysis involved in software ownership.
The University has renewed the Agreement and departments can start using the software products without paying additional license cost. (Subject to the ALA's license restrictions, Customer (the University) will not allow the Software to be used in any instance for anything but Customer's internal use.) The Agreement covers the following software products:
- Novell Open Enterprise Server
- Zenworks Desktop Management
- Zenworks Server Management
- Novell Identity Manager
- Novell Identity Audit
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (all platforms except mainframe)
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop
Included in the Annual programme fee is the Upgrade Protection which ensures that the University will always be entitled to utilise the latest versions of the Product that covered by the Agreement.
University faculty and staff should observe the terms and conditions while using the Agreement. The current Agreement will expire on 30 Sept 2010.
