Introduction
BLAST® (Basic Local Alignment Search
Tool) is a set of similarity search programs designed
to explore all of the available sequence databases
regardless of whether the query is protein or DNA.
For a detailed overview of BLAST, please refer to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/blast_overview.shtml
Information Technology Services Centre has implemented
a local web-based version of the NCBI (National Center
for Biotechnology Information) WWWBLAST server
together with the NCBI databases in the Memory-Intensive
Computing Server (Orpin). And all sequence
databases in this local server will be updated from
the NCBI server every two weeks.
In general, sequence searching through the local
server is faster than through the server at NCBI.
Additionally, if you have already built your own
sequence database and you want to integrate it into
our local server for searching by the BLAST programs,
please contact us at https://helpdesk.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/group/bioinformatics-help .
