The
High Performance Computing (HPC) System is a precious
computing resource. It is installed to support compute-intensive
research projects and programs.
Jobs submitted to the system are managed and dispatched by a batch job
management system. Jobs are scheduled to run according to the following
policies and guidelines:
A.
Policies
- Higher
priority is generally given to large jobs that
require the multiple-node(or processors) queues
as specified in section 5.2 of http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/compenv/research-computing/cluster/system.html.
Smaller jobs that require one to two nodes (or
processors) will receive a lower priority. However,
under some circumstances such as the fulfillment
of project report within a very short period,
higher priority can be given to smaller jobs.
To apply for a higher priority of your jobs please
fill in section IV "Job Scheduling Requests
and Reservation of computing nodes/processors" of
the form downloadable at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/onlineapp/form/s07.doc .
- The
job management system has implemented a fair
share scheme in which user jobs in a queue are
dispatched one-by-one no matter how many they
are in the queue.
- Partial
or all computing resources of the system can
be reserved by or dedicated to important project(s).
Please fill in section IV "Job Scheduling
Requests and Reservation of computing nodes/processors" of
the form downloadable at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/onlineapp/form/s07.doc for
such a special arrangement.
- The
administrator of the HPC system may alter the
priority or terminate the execution of any process
that is consuming excessive system resources
or objectionably degrading system response, with
or without prior notification.
B.
Guidelines
- Each
user should specify no more than one independent
program to be executed for each job. If a submitted
job is found not to conform to this guideline,
it’ll be killed without any notification.
- Each
user can, at most, have no more than 10 jobs
in a system. More will be killed without any
notification.
- Each
user should specify his/her job requirements
according to the queue
definitions , otherwise his/her job will
not be started.
- Each
user should always observe the appropriate
use of the computing resources of HPC system.
If they are found not to do so repeatedly, ITSC
may restrict access of the system to him/her.
In
general, if you want to request dedicated computing
resources or to set a higher priority for your
job, you can download an application form at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/onlineapp/form/s07.doc. |
